Da Nang, Vietnam

Beach city with dragon bridges, marble mountains, and the famous Golden Bridge

CityNatureBudgetAdventure

Why Da Nang?

Da Nang is Vietnamโ€™s most livable city and its fastest-growing tourist destination. Unlike the historic chaos of Hanoi or the intensity of Saigon, Da Nang is clean, organized, and built around one of the best urban beaches in Southeast Asia. Itโ€™s also home to two of Vietnamโ€™s most iconic landmarks โ€” the Dragon Bridge that breathes fire on weekends and the Golden Bridge held up by giant stone hands. Add world-class mi Quang noodles, easy access to Hoi An, and a booming digital nomad scene, and Da Nang becomes the city where you planned to stay three days and ended up staying three weeks.

What to Do

My Khe Beach

My Khe Beach stretches for 30km of white sand along Da Nangโ€™s coast. Itโ€™s consistently rated one of the best beaches in Asia โ€” clean, uncrowded (compared to Thai beaches), and backed by a growing strip of seafood restaurants and beach bars. Surfing is popular from September to March when the waves pick up.

Dragon Bridge

The Dragon Bridge is Da Nangโ€™s signature landmark โ€” a 666-meter dragon-shaped bridge that spans the Han River. Every Saturday and Sunday night at 9pm, the dragon breathes fire and water in a 15-minute show that draws huge crowds. Get there early for a riverside spot.

Ba Na Hills & the Golden Bridge

A cable car ride (the worldโ€™s longest single-wire at 5.8km) takes you up to Ba Na Hills theme park, home to the famous Golden Bridge โ€” a pedestrian bridge held aloft by two massive stone hands emerging from the mountainside. Itโ€™s become one of the most photographed spots in Vietnam. The park also includes a French village, gardens, and rides.

Marble Mountains

The Marble Mountains are five limestone and marble hills dotted with caves, Buddhist pagodas, and viewpoints just south of the city. Climb the stairs of Thuy Son (Water Mountain) for cave temples and panoramic views. Thereโ€™s a lift if you prefer to skip the steps.

Food & Nightlife

Mi Quang is Da Nangโ€™s signature dish โ€” turmeric-tinted noodles with shrimp, pork, herbs, and crispy rice crackers, served with just a little broth. Try it at Mi Quang Ba Mua for the local favorite. The cityโ€™s Han River bridge area has a growing nightlife scene with craft beer bars and riverside restaurants.

Pro Tips

  • Dragon Bridge fire show โ€” Saturday and Sunday nights at 9pm only; arrive 30 minutes early for a good spot
  • Hoi An is 30 minutes south โ€” Take a Grab or local bus; combine both cities into one trip
  • Son Tra Peninsula โ€” Drive or ride up for monkey sightings, secluded beaches, and the massive Lady Buddha statue
  • Digital nomad hub โ€” Fast wifi (80+ Mbps), growing coworking spaces, and affordable beachside living have made Da Nang one of Asiaโ€™s top remote work cities
  • Rent a motorbike โ€” Da Nang is spread out; a motorbike ($5-7/day) is the best way to hit the beach, mountains, and Hoi An
  • Avoid October-November โ€” This is typhoon season with heavy rainfall; February-May is ideal
